A “Coyote” Showed Up in Her Yard — But What Meredith Discovered Changed Everything

One night in Arizona, Meredith Warfel noticed a mysterious animal in her backyard. At first, she assumed it was a coyote — the size and coloring seemed to match.

Over the next few days, the animal kept returning. It even started sleeping on her patio furniture. That’s when Meredith realized something didn’t add up.

“A coyote wouldn’t sleep on a couch,” she remembered thinking.

Slowly, it became clear that the animal wasn’t wild at all — it was a lost dog. Gentle, shy, and clearly looking for a safe place to stay.

Meredith posted photos on local social media, hoping to find the dog’s owner. Most people still thought it was a coyote. But Meredith knew better. The little dog was sweet and skittish — in need of care, not fear.

No one came forward to claim her. Meredith suspected she had been abandoned on a nearby hiking trail. The poor pup had cactus spines stuck in her fur, was underweight, and malnourished.

Meredith took the dog to a local humane society. There was no microchip. While the staff held her for a few days to see if anyone claimed her, Meredith and her family visited every day.

It didn’t take long for Meredith to realize she couldn’t let the dog go. After all, the little pup had chosen her yard as a safe spot. She named her Luna, because she first appeared under the light of the moon.

Once Luna settled in, her personality blossomed. She became part of Meredith’s big, busy family, which includes kids, four cats, and even a bearded dragon.

Today, Luna loves playing Frisbee, swimming in the pool, and lounging on floaties. But mostly, she just enjoys being safe and loved — something she hadn’t experienced before.

Looking back, Meredith says it all felt meant to be. That first night, Luna picked her — and the little dog’s life changed forever.
