Animal story

She was found alone. Close your eyes and imagine it—the umbilical cord still attached, too young to lift her own head. Whoever discovered her didn’t know what to do. They reached out for help. The shelter rejected her, saying she wouldn’t survive the night and instructing my wife to leave her at the door. But that was never going to happen.

This wasn’t about a lifelong love of animals. It wasn’t about affection. It was about survival. My wife brought the tiny kitten home. She researched. She didn’t sleep. She fed her by bottle, weighed her constantly, warmed her little body every hour—day and night. No vacations. No guarantees.

The first night passed. The kitten survived. The next evening, she came back to life. Slowly, she began latching during feedings. Her belly grew. Her cries lessened. She slept a little longer. She started to grow—slowly, steadily.

She is still small. Still fragile. But she is no longer defenseless. My wife didn’t just save a kitten—she gave her a chance when no one thought she would live. And here she is: alive, stronger, expanding. What comes next is unknown. There are no guarantees in life. But she is here for now, and that’s enough.
